Two shoplots in Lahad Datu town on Sabah’s east coast had their roofs ripped off by a “twister” recently. Videos circulating on social media captured the zinc roofs floating in the air as strong winds battered the buildings located at Mile 2 of Jalan Segama in Lahad Datu around 2pm on Friday.

The Lahad Datu district police chief, Asst Comm Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad, reported that the intense wind caused damage to the roofs of a vehicle service center and the office of the Lahad Datu Farmers Association. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. No official reports were lodged by the public with the police following the roof’s displacement.

Reports indicated that the strong wind also disrupted electricity supply to some of the shop lots in the affected area.
