KOTA KINABALU: Two men were arrested by police along with drugs worth RM44,000 during an operation at the Sapi Nangoh road checkpoint in Beluran Friday night (Aug 30).
Beluran district police chief Supt Hasan Majid said they also found 400g of methamphetamine worth about RM44,000 from the two men, both locals in their 30s.
The duo were caught during Ops Tapis by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Beluran District Police Headquarters, alongside personnel from the General Operations Force, Company A, Battalion 20 Beluran, at 11.30pm.
During the operation, officers stopped a vehicle and discovered a pink plastic bag inside and an inspection of the bag revealed a black plastic wrap containing eight transparent packets, each filled with syabu.
Hasan added that both men have been remanded for further investigation as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the drug distribution network.
The suspects have previous drug-related convictions in their criminal record and tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Hasan added that the suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties, including the death penalty and a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
He then said that drug trafficking, possession, and misuse are serious offences under Malaysian law.
“The public is urged to cooperate and provide information to the police to combat this activity,” he said.
