In George Town, two individuals were disqualified from renting vacant stalls at food complexes, markets, and hawker centers after appearing shirtless during an online interview with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
According to MBPP public health and licensing chairman Tan Soo Siang, the two hawkers in their 50s failed to adhere to the requirement of being neatly dressed even during virtual interviews as specified in the application form.
Their lack of attire led to their immediate disqualification from the application process.
Tan also mentioned that some applicants would join the interview while driving, disregarding road safety, resulting in them being asked to pull over before proceeding with the interview.
She further emphasized that the MBPP began conducting online interviews two months ago, which was more convenient and efficient than face-to-face interviews.
Furthermore, Tan stated that there are openings for a total of 155 stalls in 28 locations, and interested individuals can apply online from Friday (Nov 17) until Nov 27.
Successful applicants will be interviewed online on Nov 30, and those who cannot apply online can seek assistance by calling the MBPP licensing unit at 04-263 8818 (ext 307/308/309/310).
