Iraqi Kurdistan’s counter-terrorism service stated that two members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed in the town of Ranya due to a Turkish drone strike on Monday. The counter-terrorism statement added that two other PKK fighters were wounded during the attack.
According to Kurdish security sources, the drone strike specifically targeted a group of PKK fighters located in Ranya, which is approximately 130 km (80 miles) northeast of Sulaimaniya in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Turkey has been conducting air strikes on PKK militants in northern Iraq on a regular basis, and it also maintains several outposts within Iraqi territory. The PKK initiated armed resistance against the Turkish state in 1984.
