Two suspects have been remanded for seven days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly offering and giving a bribe worth RM500 to a Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officer. Magistrate Fairuz Syuhada signed the order following an application by MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya.
The suspects, an ice factory supervisor and his agent, will be detained at the MACC lock-up until Feb 6 to assist in the probe. The two suspects, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s, were detained following questioning at the MACC office in Port Dickson on Jan 30th.
They are alleged to have offered the bribe to prevent the JPJ from taking action against them under the Road Transport Act for multiple traffic violations. During a roadblock inspection in Lukut in Port Dickson, a lorry belonging to the suspects was found to not have a valid road tax and the driver also did not provide a valid driving license and goods driving license.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
