(Reuters) – In preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meeting in Guyana, the United States is planning to advocate for increased support for a security mission to Haiti, as announced by State Department official Brian Nichols on Friday.
Nichols also mentioned that U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield will emphasize the importance of establishing a credible and inclusive path towards conducting elections in Haiti. Despite Kenya’s offer to lead the mission, they have encountered legal obstacles.
During her visit, Thomas-Greenfield will have a meeting with Guayanese President Irfaan Ali, according to a statement by Nichols posted on the social media network X.
