Uganda is preparing to administer yellow fever vaccinations to more than 17 million individuals, both adults and children, as announced by a senior Ministry of Health official in Kampala on Tuesday.
The program manager of the Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunization, Michael Baganizi, revealed that the vaccination campaign is set to commence in early April and will cover a total of 53 districts.
This mass vaccination initiative will be carried out in stages, with a previous phase conducted in October of the previous year focusing on children under the age of one. Baganizi mentioned that the current target group includes individuals above the age of one as well as adults under 59 years old.
Ugandans are encouraged to actively participate in the vaccination process, which will be provided free of charge and deemed safe by health officials.
Yellow fever is a viral infection spread through the bites of mosquitoes carrying the virus. Common symptoms of yellow fever include fever, headache, vomiting, fatigue, muscle pain, nausea, and jaundice, according to information from the Ministry of Health.
