(Reuters) – Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency announced on Monday that they have apprehended a woman who is suspected of collecting information about President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s schedule ahead of his trip, as well as attempting to provide information about military facilities to Russia.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) did not disclose the identity of the alleged agent. However, in an image released by the agency, a dark-haired woman dressed in black and white can be seen surrounded by two servicemen. However, for protection purposes, all faces in the image were blurred.
The suspect was arrested in Mykolaiv, a port city in southern Ukraine. Zelenskiy’s last visit to the city was reported by his media channel on July 27.
The SBU further accused the alleged agent of attempting to identify the locations of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems and ammunition depots near Ochakiv, a port town located 30 miles (48 km) away from Mykolaiv.
“SBU members apprehended the traitor in the act of transmitting intelligence to the invaders,” stated the agency, noting that additional security measures were implemented during the presidential visit.
According to the SBU, the woman is a resident of Ochakiv and previously worked at an army store where she sold products to soldiers from a local Ukrainian military unit. Her arrest was granted by a court, and if convicted, she could face a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
