(Reuters) – Ukraine conducted drone attacks on multiple Russian regions for the second consecutive night, officials reported on Wednesday. The attacks resulted in damage to a gas supply line and the loss of power in certain villages in the Belgorod region. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, assured that no individuals were injured during the attacks. He communicated via the Telegram messaging app that four drones launched from Ukraine were destroyed over the region. Debris from the destroyed drones caused harm to a gas supply line in one village and caused power outages in a couple of other villages. Some houses in the town of Gubkin were also damaged.
Gladkov further stated that the town of Shebekino was targeted by Ukrainian forces, resulting in an injury to one individual and damage to a power line in the town and nearby areas. Roman Starovoit, the governor of the Kursk oblast north of Belgorod, confirmed that air defense systems thwarted four drones launched from Ukraine. He did not provide specific details on the extent of any potential damage caused. The Voronezh region governor in Russia’s south reported that air defense systems in the region were activated multiple times to repel a drone attack from Ukraine. Fortunately, there were no negative consequences for civilian infrastructure as a result of this engagement.
In a separate incident on the previous day, Ukraine launched numerous drones and rockets at targets in Russia, causing severe damage to a major oil refinery. The attack was also aimed at breaching the land borders of the world’s largest nuclear power by utilizing armed proxies. The situation continues to escalate tensions between Ukraine and Russia as the conflict shows no signs of abating.
