Ukrainian railways have implemented partial restrictions on cargo shipments to the major Danube River port Izmail due to recent drone attacks originating from Russia, according to a statement released on Monday.
The restrictions came into effect on Sunday, as stated by the railways.
Over the past couple of weeks, Russian drones have repeatedly targeted Ukrainian ports along the Danube River.
The most recent attack focused on Izmail, a port located in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, resulting in damages to warehouses, production buildings, and civilian infrastructure buildings, which subsequently caught fire due to debris from downed drones, confirmed regional authorities.
However, Ukraine suggested that some Russian drones exploded on the opposite bank within Romanian territory, a claim that Romania denied.
Since July, the Danube River has become the primary route for Ukraine’s grain exports, as Russia withdrew from a U.N.- and Turkey-mediated agreement facilitating the safe passage of Kyiv’s grain, oilseeds, and vegetable oils via the Black Sea.
