KYIV (Reuters) – The Air Force of Ukraine has announced that they successfully shot down 34 out of 44 Shahed drones launched by Russia during an overnight attack. The military utilized fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, and mobile fire groups to defend against the attack. The regional governor of Odesa, Oleh Kiper, confirmed that his region was the primary target but assured that no casualties were reported as a result of the attack.
Kiper praised the efforts of the air defence forces, stating, “Our air defence forces did an excellent job.” He added that there was no significant damage caused, only a few small fires on dry grass due to the wreckage of the downed Shahed drones.
Since July, Odesa, Ukraine’s southern seaport region, has been subjected to multiple drone and missile attacks from Russia. These attacks started after Russia withdrew from a grain export deal brokered by the United Nations, which had allowed Ukraine to ship its grain internationally.
