In an overnight attack, Russia launched 31 drones and fired 2 missiles at Ukraine, primarily targeting the southern region of the country. The Ukrainian military stated on Monday that their air defenses successfully destroyed 28 drones and both missiles.
According to Ukraine’s Air Forces on the Telegram messaging app, “As a result of air combat, the Ukrainian Air Force and defence forces destroyed 28 Shahed attack drones in Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Donetsk, Kirovohrad and Khmelnytskyi regions.” The drones were launched from Russian-occupied Crimea.
No casualties or damage have been reported by military and civilian authorities following the attack.
The military also reiterated previously released information that two Russian military aircraft were brought down near the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov in southern Ukraine and near occupied Donetsk city in eastern Ukraine.
Both Russian and Ukrainian military officials confirmed the downing of enemy aircraft in different areas of the 1,000-km-long front of their 22-month-old war on Sunday.
Although Reuters was unable to independently verify the Ukrainian air force’s report, there was no immediate comment from Russia.
