(Reuters) – Russian-backed Donetsk Mayor Alexei Kulemzin reported on Saturday that an Ukrainian shelling attack in the city of Donetsk resulted in the death of a civilian and one person being wounded.
Kulemzin shared through his Telegram channel that several buildings in various districts of the city were also damaged.
Donetsk, one of the regions in Ukraine that Russia partially occupies and claims as its own since last year, has been widely criticized by most countries in the United Nations General Assembly for this illegal action.
When Ukrainian attacks have caused civilian casualties in Donetsk and other areas, Russia has expressed strong disapproval. However, its own attacks have resulted in the death of thousands of Ukrainian civilians.
In July, the United Nations disclosed that over 9,000 Ukrainian civilians, including more than 500 children, have been killed during the conflict that began with Russia’s offensive in February 2022, and the actual number of casualties might be even higher.
