Umno leaders have gathered at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur to attend a private meeting with party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Sunday (Feb 4).
The purpose of the meeting is for Ahmad Zahid to address Umno division leaders regarding the recent reduction in the jail sentence for former party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Notable figures such as Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan were seen arriving for the meeting.
In a statement released on Saturday (Feb 3), the supreme council expressed its respect for the decision of the Pardons Board in reducing Najib’s jail term, while also stating its commitment to continuing the fight for Najib’s release from prison.
Friday (Feb 2) saw the announcement by the Pardons Board of their decision to reduce Najib’s jail term from 12 years to six, with a release date of Aug 23, 2028, and to reduce his fine from RM210mil to RM50mil.
