KUALA LUMPUR: The political party Umno is planning to request that the government promptly establish a gig economy commission in order to safeguard the welfare and rights of workers within this sector.
Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the secretary-general of Umno, revealed that the party’s supreme council mulled over a memorandum submitted by delivery riders prior to their meeting on Friday (Jan 26).
“The meeting had a unanimous agreement to entreat the government to form a gig economy commission right away,” he stated to the press.
He also mentioned that the Umno branches are slated to hold their annual meetings between April 22 and June 2, as the council came to a consensus on this matter.
Additionally, it was settled that Umno divisions, as well as its Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings, will conduct their annual meetings between June 21 and July 29. They are aiming to hold the Umno general assembly between Aug 21 and 24 as well,” as reported by Asyraf Wajdi.
Furthermore, Asyraf Wajdi detailed that the Umno economic and financial council, helmed by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, is preparing to host a bumiputra economic congress colloquium on Feb 3, which will be located at Dewan Merdeka, WTC Kuala Lumpur.
“The outcomes of this colloquium will be presented at the bumiputra economic congress set to be organized between Feb 29 and March 2, 2024,” he revealed.
