PUTRAJAYA: Umno, under the leadership of its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, remains committed to pursuing justice for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic), according to a recent statement.
Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the party’s efforts in this regard should be treated as an internal matter and do not necessitate public discussion.
During the recent Umno general assembly, Dr Ahmad Zahid highlighted that Najib had cautioned party members against falling into the trap set by their adversaries, who aimed to sow divisions within the party.
Najib’s advice to the party on this matter was also raised by his son, Datuk Nizar, during the assembly, corroborating Najib’s stance.
Daunting claims that Najib had encouraged Umno members to undermine the unity government, Nizar clarified that his father had, in fact, urged party members to remain loyal to both the party and the presidential institution.
Reports have surfaced, citing Najib’s other son, Datuk Naziffudin, who stated that supporters of the former president may choose not to vote in the upcoming six state elections as a form of protest, expressing their dissatisfaction with Umno’s perceived lack of action in seeking justice for Najib.
In July 2020, Najib was found guilty and sentenced for charges relating to criminal breach of trust (CBT), money laundering, and abuse of position in connection with SRC funds, amounting to RM42 million.
Currently serving a 12-year jail sentence, Najib was also fined RM210 million.
