CAIRO (Reuters) – The United Nations’ Secretary-General, António Guterres, expressed strong condemnation for the air strike that tragically claimed the lives of at least 22 individuals in Sudan on Saturday. According to an official statement released by a spokesperson early Sunday, Guterres, in solidarity with the victims, voiced his deep concern over the escalating violence in the country.

In western Omdurman city, Sudan’s army conducted the air strike, resulting in the deaths of 22 people and numerous injuries. This brutal attack marks the 12th week of relentless warfare between different factions within the country’s military. The Ministry of Health in Khartoum state confirmed the devastating toll of the incident.

Additionally, the Secretary-General expressed his appallment at the reports of extensive violence and casualties in Sudan’s Darfur region. Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson, reiterated these concerns in the official statement. The blatant disregard for human rights and humanitarian law displayed by the ongoing conflict is deeply disturbing and poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of the Sudanese people.

António Guterres has once again called upon the Sudanese Armed Forces and its rival Rapid Support Forces to immediately halt hostilities and commit to a lasting cessation of violence. It is crucial for the warring factions to prioritize the protection of human life and guarantee the safety and security of the nation as a whole.
