According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a vessel has been boarded off the coast of Somalia by multiple individuals who have now taken control of it. The incident was reported to have occurred 600 nautical miles east of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
UKMTO stated that unauthorized persons are now in control of the vessel and that the individuals who boarded the vessel arrived on one small and one large craft. British maritime security firm Ambrey also reported that a Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier was boarded in the same region.
Ambrey issued a statement advising merchant vessels to stay clear of the area as the situation is considered to be an ongoing incident with the perpetrators attempting to take control of the bulk carrier.
