An unauthorized man was apprehended in the Sandakan district after allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer with RM100 to evade arrest, according to sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The suspect, who was taken into custody for various offenses, is said to have offered the money to the on-duty policeman in exchange for his release. However, the policeman declined the bribe and handed the suspect over to the MACC for further investigation, as revealed by the sources on Thursday (Feb 8).
The suspect was detained at the MACC office at around 6pm on Wednesday (Feb 7), as stated by the sources.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated as an attempted bribery of a civil servant. He praised the policeman for rejecting the offer and urged other enforcement officials and civil servants to follow this example by carrying out their duties with integrity and honesty.
