BATU GAJAH: A 32-year-old unemployed man was shot near an oil palm estate in Kampung Sumpit Beras, Selama, Perak.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the man is believed to have stolen some oil palm produce prior to the incident on Friday (Oct 4) at 7.50pm.
“The victim sustained injuries on his left leg.
“When taken to the hospital, the victim was found in a dazed state and is suspected of taking drugs,” he said after opening the Taman Angkat Aman Wanita (Amanita) 2024 programme at the Pusing Convention Hall here on Saturday (Oct 5).
“We are also investigating to see who opened fire, whether it was the owner of the estate or the worker there and where the shot was fired.
“The victim is in stable condition now. We will conduct the questioning and investigations once the victim is better,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960.
Comm Azizi said the people are to refrain from taking actions that go beyond the limits of the law.
“The law provides the public with the right to make a citizen’s arrest if there is a criminal offence and to surrender the suspect to the police for further action.
“Shooting is not a right action, and it is a crime,” he added.
