SELAYANG: Component parties in the unity government are in disarray and looking for a new political platform, claims Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“They are in disarray because of differing party principles. It is called a unity government, but there is no unity among them. Their own party members are questioning the actions of their leaders who are willing to sacrifice the party’s principles for personal gain,” the Bersatu president said at the party’s convention at the Ideal Convention Centre here on Saturday (July 13).
Muhyiddin claimed that the unity government was willing to violate provisions under the anti-hopping law that it originally fought for.
“I have never seen a government party lose so badly in a by-election.
“This is why they were afraid to announce the vacancy of the six MPs’ seats and one state seat held by former Bersatu members who supported the government,” said Muhyiddin.
On July 10, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the six expelled Bersatu MPs will keep their parliamentary seats.
He said Bersatu’s new regulations, which declared that the six had ceased to be members, had violated the Federal Constitution and laws related to Parliament.
At the Bersatu convention, among the main agenda were to provide the latest briefing on the rules for Bersatu conferences at the branch, division, and central levels and to launch an internal national consultation to outline the principles and philosophy of the party’s struggle.
