GEORGE TOWN: A Penang state executive council member has been advised to go on leave to sort out his personal problems, which have been said to have affected his duties.

Reliable sources confirmed that the assemblyman has gone on leave from Monday (July 24) and had not been seen at his office since then.

“He has been given a temporary reprieve and told to sort out his problem. Talk is rife that he might be replaced in the exco lineup, but will remain as assemblyman,” one source said.

Another source said that Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was expected to table this matter at the weekly exco meeting tomorrow (July 24).

“I expect Chow to bring up this matter at the exco meeting,” the source said.

The source also added that DAP has now embarked on a house-cleaning process before the state election in September.

“As the state chairman, Chow is expected to face stiff competition from members aligned to a senior party leader. He must put forward a strong team to fill the 15-member state committee lineup.”
