The owner of CCC Fitness, a gym in San Luis Obispo County, is allegedly involved in a hidden camera investigation and has been accused of stalking a woman for two years, according to the woman who spoke to The Tribune. Cole Corrigan, the gym owner, is alleged to have hidden a camera in the women’s restroom at the gym located at 81 Higuera St. The San Luis Obispo Police Department made the discovery on Tuesday and a news release was issued, however, minimal information has been provided since then. CCC Fitness confirmed Corrigan as the target of the investigation in a now-deleted Instagram post on Wednesday evening.
Corrigan has had previous run-ins with the law, with a Tribune investigation revealing seven convictions between 2006 and 2008 which were subsequently expunged from his record in 2018. The charges included a felony drug offence, public intoxication, driving under the influence, and prowling. In 2007, Corrigan was charged with prowling and trespassing, but he ultimately made a plea deal admitting guilt to prowling, resulting in the dismissal of the trespassing charge. He received one year of probation as a sentence.
Despite efforts to contact Corrigan for comments, he remains unreachable for this story. Meanwhile, the woman who remains anonymous said that Corrigan’s recent arrest confirmed her suspicions about him being her stalker. She had been calling the police for two years to report someone watching her from outside her bedroom window. While she never saw the person directly, she heard strange noises and could occasionally make out a tall man lurking around. She recalls feeling she was in danger on one particular day and asked the police for an escort from her front door to her car as a precaution. Even though evidence such as muddy footprints and beer cans were found around her home, the unknown man managed to evade capture.
In October 2007, the woman and her brother confronted a man outside their house after hearing a noise. When they gave chase, the man was apprehended by Sheriff’s deputies. It was then that the woman recognized the person as Corrigan, someone who attended the same elementary school as her. There is no clear motive for Corrigan’s actions or a precise timeline of his stalking activities. Emergency protective orders were issued against him for the woman and her brother by the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.
A week after his release for the previous incident, Corrigan was arrested once again in October 2007, this time completely naked near the woman’s home. He was under the influence of illegal drugs and failed to comply with the deputies’ instructions. Despite the use of beanbag and pepperball ammunition, pepper spray, batons, and tasers, Corrigan resisted arrest. He ended up fracturing his jaw and requiring surgery in a hospital. He pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing or resisting a public official with threats and/or violence, resulting in a three-year probation sentence.
The woman expressed shock and disappointment upon hearing the news of Corrigan’s alleged involvement in hiding a camera in the women’s restroom at CCC Fitness. She believes it is concerning that he was allowed to operate a women’s-only gym given his criminal history and hopes that her story encourages others to come forward. She fears that there may be other victims who have experienced more severe actions by Corrigan.
