In an effort to diminish Russia’s revenue from oil sales that could be used to support its invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. Treasury has imposed sanctions on Sovcomflot, Russia’s top tanker group, as reported on the department’s website on Friday. The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control also singled out 14 vessels for carrying oil above the West’s price cap on Russian oil.
On the same day, Washington implemented comprehensive sanctions against Russia, targeting over 500 individuals and entities in commemoration of the second anniversary of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and in response to the death of Alexei Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition figure.
