REDWOOD CITY: According to authorities, a member of Redwood City’s fire department discovered a sexually explicit photo of a child on a computer screen while responding to a serious medical emergency. The incident led to the arrest of an elderly man who had required assistance. Fire personnel were called to the emergency at approximately 7pm on the 1400 block of Kentfield Avenue. The apartment manager allowed them to enter the unit of the 75-year-old man, as there was no response at his door.
The man was experiencing a serious, but not life-threatening, medical issue, according to police. While attending to him, a responder noticed the disturbing photo on the computer and immediately reported it to the authorities.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the man had a criminal history involving sex crimes against children. A search warrant was issued, and his electronics were confiscated. Subsequent investigation revealed additional sexually explicit photos on his devices. The man was arrested after being medically cleared and was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of child pornography possession. — Bay Area News Group/Tribune News Service
