A Slidell man was arrested and accused of placing hidden cameras in his northshore home and inside a condominium in Orange Beach, Alabama, where multiple victims were recorded, according to the Slidell Police Department.
In late May, Slidell police began investigating Jonathan Bethancourt, 31, after a babysitter found a camera hidden in a smoke detector in a bathroom at Bethancourt’s home. The babysitter brought the video camera to the Slidell Police Department.
Investigators issued a search warrant at Bethancourt’s home, where they found another camera, police said.
The babysitter, Alyssa Glavan, has posted a series of videos on her TikTok account since Monday, writing in the comments that “it was time (she) spoke up.”
In a TikTok video, Glavan said that she found a smoke detector in the closet near the bathroom. After noticing a camera lens on the smoke detector, she took it off of the wall and found an SD card with a QR code inside of it. Glavan scanned the QR code, which brought her to an online page for a “secret spy cam”.
At the end of the video, Glavan included an audio clip of who she says is Bethancourt, admitting to owning the spy camera. This has not yet been confirmed by police.
Investigators are still looking through video evidence and have identified additional victims so far in the probe, police said Wednesday.
Bethancourt was booked into Slidell City Jail and charged with 11 counts of video voyeurism on May 29, then was later transported to St. Tammany Parish Jail. He has since been released on bail.
