WATERTOWN, New York: According to Trooper Jack Keller, a spokesperson for the New York State Police, a man from Watertown was arrested on Feb 29 on charges related to child pornography and unlawful surveillance using a hidden camera in a wall outlet.
The suspect, identified as Nicholas O. Sherwood, 46, is facing multiple felony charges including three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, promoting the sexual performance of a child, and second degree unlawful surveillance.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Sherwood’s residence located at 228 Ten Eyck St. in Watertown as part of an operation conducted by an Internet Crimes Against Children task force. The warrant was issued in connection with the dissemination of child sexual exploitation material over the internet.
During the search, investigators discovered that Sherwood had installed a concealed camera inside a wall outlet at a different residence in Jefferson County, as per Keller’s statement.
Concerns have been raised by investigators regarding Sherwood’s access to other properties in the region, as he works as a property manager. Keller also noted that Sherwood is classified as a level one sex offender.
The alleged actions of Sherwood have caused shock and outrage in the Watertown community, with residents expressing deep concern over the safety of their homes and families.
