According to Reuters, the U.S. military conducted an operation in Haiti on Sunday to evacuate non-essential embassy personnel and increase security at the embassy, as the Caribbean nation faces a state of emergency.

This operation highlights the ongoing struggles in Haiti, where gang violence poses a threat to the government and has forced thousands of people to flee their homes.

The U.S. military’s Southern Command stated, “This airlift of personnel in and out of the embassy is part of our standard security protocol for embassies around the world, and no Haitians were on board the military aircraft.”

Last Sunday, Haiti declared a state of emergency amidst escalating violence while Prime Minister Ariel Henry was in Nairobi negotiating a deal for a U.N.-backed mission that has been delayed due to legal issues in Kenya.

On Saturday, the U.S. State Department revealed that Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the Haiti crisis with Kenyan President William Ruto, emphasizing their dedication to a multinational security mission to restore order in Haiti.

In its statement, Southern Command reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting the Haitian people, including aiding the Haitian National Police, expediting the deployment of a Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission authorized by the U.N., and facilitating a peaceful transition of power through free and fair elections.

It is evident that the U.S. is actively engaged in efforts to stabilize Haiti and address the ongoing challenges facing the country.

The situation in Haiti remains precarious, and the international community, including the U.S., is working towards finding solutions to mitigate the crisis and restore stability to the nation.

Ultimately, the goal is to help Haiti overcome its current difficulties and pave the way for a peaceful and prosperous future for its people, with the support of the U.S. and other countries committed to aiding in the country’s recovery and development.

From diplomatic efforts to security operations, the international community is actively involved in addressing the crisis in Haiti and working towards a resolution that will benefit the Haitian people and promote stability in the region. (Reporting by Phil Stewart, Editing by Louise Heavens)
