WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States, Saudi Arabia, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, along with the African Union, have restarted talks on humanitarian aid and ceasefire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, as announced by the U.S. State Department on Sunday.

“It is crucial to acknowledge that there is no military solution deemed acceptable for this conflict. We urge the SAF and RSF to engage in these discussions constructively, prioritizing the preservation of lives, reduction of violence, and establishment of a negotiated resolution to end the conflict,” emphasized Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department.

This development follows the joint efforts by the United States, Saudi Arabia, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the African Union to facilitate dialogue to address the crisis in Sudan.

These talks aim to address the dire humanitarian situation and bring about a lasting ceasefire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, who have been engaged in ongoing conflict that has resulted in countless casualties and widespread suffering.

The United States, Saudi Arabia, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the African Union urge both parties to participate in the negotiations proactively, and with a shared commitment to finding a resolution that will bring an end to the violence and allow for a peaceful exit from the conflict.

The international community has repeatedly stressed the importance of a political solution to the crisis, with the understanding that a military approach will not provide a sustainable resolution.

The United States, Saudi Arabia, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the African Union stand firm in their determination to support the Sudanese people and work towards alleviating the suffering caused by the conflict.

As Jasper Ward reports, this news was received with optimism and will be closely monitored, as the outcome of these talks has the potential to significantly impact the lives of the Sudanese population.
