A 20-year-old volunteer firefighter, Mohamad Aiman Zulkifli, bravely rescued a woman from drowning after her car skidded into Sungai Beriah near Alor Pongsu. The woman, who was 37 years old, was trapped inside her car when the accident occurred at about 7.40pm on Tuesday (Nov 14) while on her way back to her hometown in Gerik.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon revealed that Mohamad Aiman received an emergency call and immediately rushed to the site. Upon arrival, he found the car submerged in the river and the victim trapped inside. Without hesitation, he jumped into the river and successfully rescued the woman, who was luckily uninjured but traumatized by the incident. As the victim was brought to safety, the car completely sank into the water.
In an interview, Mohamad Aiman recalled reaching the site just five minutes after receiving the call. Despite not being a strong swimmer, he put on a life jacket and plunged into the swollen river, motivated by the need to save a life. He expressed his relief and joy at having been able to accomplish this.
