Petaling Jaya: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has responded to calls for a police report to be lodged following a racial slur made by former Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi. However, PSM has decided against burdening the police, considering their current workload. “Many people are asking PSM to lodge a police report against Najwan Halimi for his racist comment, but we just don’t want to burden the police who have so many other things to do,” stated Arulchelvan. He emphasized that PSM’s focus is on building a united, respectful, and equal nation.
Najwan Halimi, who serves as Shah Alam PKR deputy chief, has issued an apology and fully accepted responsibility for his remarks. The Indian politicians have also expressed their disapproval of his comments. P. Prabakaran, Najwan’s party colleague and PKR’s Batu MP, denounced his actions on Twitter, stating, “You have disgraced the party’s reputation. Shame on you.” Additionally, Dr R. Siva Prakash, Selangor Muda deputy president, called for an immediate response from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In his apology tweet, Najwan assured that he will exercise caution with his statements in the future. “I apologize to all parties who may have been hurt and will be more careful in making any statements in the future,” expressed Najwan. He also promised that incidents like this would not occur again.
Despite the incident, PSM remains focused on their mission and the ongoing work they have towards creating a nation based on unity, respect, and equality.
