PETALING JAYA: National weightlifter Mohd Aniq Kasdan has once again displayed his potential in the sport by earning a bronze medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (Sept 6).
In his debut competition in the 61kg class, the 21-year-old secured the bronze for the clean and jerk with a lift of 166kg.
Additionally, the former 55kg-class lifter shattered the national record with a combined lift of 291kg, achieving a snatch of 125kg. In the overall rankings, he finished in ninth place.
The gold medal in the clean and jerk went to United States’ Hampton Morris, who lifted 168kg, while China’s Li Fabin claimed the silver with a lift of 167kg.
In a previous event, Aniq won the silver medal at the 2021 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he achieved second place in the clean and jerk event in the 55kg class with a lift of 142kg.
Meanwhile, Aniq’s teammate Aznil Bidin finished 11th in the overall rankings, with a total weight of 290kg, including 128kg in the snatch and 161kg in the clean and jerk.
