On Monday at COP28 in Dubai, more funding is expected to be announced for the climate cause during finance day. This follows several days of discussions among world leaders and the private sector about increasing finance for climate action and disaster support.

As world leaders depart from the conference, the focus on finance is likely to become more detailed and the announcements less bold. This will involve in-depth discussions aimed at improving financial systems, rather than creating attention-grabbing headlines or photo opportunities.

The future of fossil fuels is a critical aspect of the summit’s outcome, and clear divisions are emerging among countries on how to word the final agreement.

Meanwhile, a side event called the Saudi Green Initiative will be hosted by Saudi Arabia to promote its clean energy plans. Additionally, the U.N. climate agency may release a new draft document detailing the progress made by countries in the global stocktake – the process of establishing a new plan to address global warming.

Protests may also escalate at the COP28 site, as activists view the U.N.-led event as a rare opportunity to rally in the United Arab Emirates, where public demonstrations are prohibited.
