Malaysia’s performance at the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou was disappointing on Wednesday (Dec 13), as men’s doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei both lost their opening matches.
World No. 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik were beaten 16-21, 21-14, 18-21 by Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in a Group A match.
The 2022 world champions, Aaron-Wooi Yik, are scheduled to meet China’s world No. 1 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang in the second group match on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tang Jie-Ee Wei also struggled to perform, losing 10-21, 13-21 to Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping of China in Group A.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will have another chance to improve their performance when they meet Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino of Japan in their second group match.
The top two players or pairs from each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held on Saturday (Dec 16).
