Bersatu’s Sasha Lyna Abdul Latiff said withdrawing support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government is not treason, as it is part of democracy and permitted under Article 43 of the Federal Constitution.
Sasha Lyna, the party’s legal and constitutional bureau deputy head, emphasized that the Federal Constitution allows MPs to support whomever they choose, as the Prime Minister is appointed from the majority support of the MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
Her statement came in response to Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director-general (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop, who mentioned a “Dubai Move” to topple the unity government during a recent vacation of Perikatan leaders, including government officials, in the United Arab Emirates.
In reaction to Ismail’s comments, Sasha Lyna called it irresponsible to label such actions as treasonous and challenged the warnings and threats made to MPs on choosing the Prime Minister in the Dewan Rakyat.
She also raised concerns about Anwar instructing the Home Affairs Ministry, the Chief of Police, and the national security authorities to crackdown on opposition leaders, indicating a threat to parliamentary democracy.
