A woman in Colorado who used an AirTag to locate her stolen car had a terrifying experience when she ended up being shot in the hand, according to local police reports.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 9, when the woman’s 2020 Kia Optima was stolen. Determined not to let the thieves get away, she and two friends decided to track down the vehicle themselves, as shared by a spokesperson from the Aurora Police Department in an interview with McClatchy News.
Tragedy struck when someone shot the woman in the hand as she approached her stolen car. Immediately after the incident, she was driven to the hospital, where police were alerted to the situation.
In an effort to apprehend the culprits, an Aurora police officer spotted the stolen Kia Optima and quickly engaged in a high-speed pursuit. However, during the chase, the officer unfortunately crashed into an unrelated vehicle, causing minor injuries to both the officer and two individuals in the other car, as reported on Twitter by the police department.
Eventually, the stolen Kia Optima was discovered abandoned. While the investigation remains ongoing, no arrests have been made at this time.
