PETALING JAYA: Media personality Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai has been named as a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) regional board member for Malaysia.
He has also been selected as a CMI Companion, the highest level of membership of the prestigious UK-based body.
The CMI is an influential professional institution for management with a global membership.
Wong is the chairman of Bernama, the Malaysian news agency, and the advisor of Star Media Group.
He has over 40 years experience in journalism and has held various top positions at editorial and corporate levels.
CMI Malaysia regional board chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak welcomed Wong to the board.
“We believe Wong, with his experience and extensive network, would be able to contribute to CMI Malaysia,” he said.
Wong sits on the board of the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute, an independent think tank, and Cerebrum, another set up, initiated by Johor Corporation (Jcorp).
Wong, a graduate of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, has served as an adjunct professor at his alma mater and at Universiti Utara Malaysia.
He became the first Malaysian to be elected into the Paris-based World Editors Forum and was also a chairman of the Singapore-based Asia News Network, which he is an advisor.
He also sits on the board of a public listed company.
