The Human Resources Minister, Steven Sim Chee Keong, has announced that the allocation for the Workers’ Union Affairs Programme has been increased to RM5.8mil this year from RM2.6mil last year. He also mentioned that the maximum limit of grant applications for workers’ unions had been raised from RM10,000 to RM20,000 to strengthen the management of workers’ union affairs.

In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 17), Sim emphasized that the issuance of the programme’s grants is subject to the conditions set. He also stated that workers’ unions play a crucial role in supporting and strengthening the pillar of the economy, which is workers, and therefore should be supported and strengthened.

Furthermore, Sim highlighted that two committees, the Workers’ Union Affairs Programme Technical Committee and the Assessment or Approval Panel Committee, have been formed for evaluating applications. In addition, the Workers’ Union Affairs Department will promote grants and programmes under the programme to all workers’ unions through the department’s state offices throughout the country via in-person briefing sessions and advertisements on the department’s website jheks.mohr.gov.my. – Bernama
