There are plans to hold a world food forum in Kota Kinabalu next year, focusing on indigenous food security systems. The event aims to highlight the unique ‘bosou’ dish of the Kadazandusun community. Jiliah Situn, president of the Sabah Indigenous Bosou Enterprise Association, stated that this dish holds a special place in the hearts of indigenous Sabahans. Sabah’s ‘bosou’ has gained international recognition and has sparked interest from Unesco and the United Nations for its cultural heritage and sustainable practices.
The Sabah Indigenous Bosou Enterprise Association aims to promote cross-cultural learning by inviting participants from other countries to share insights about their own ‘bosou’ dishes. This event idea was discussed during a meeting between the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Jiliah. Both parties agreed that the proposed forum would showcase the essence of Sabah’s ‘bosou’ on a global platform.
Bangkuai advised the association to develop a comprehensive framework for the ‘bosou’ international food festival and stated that the STB is committed to supporting local events that attract international participants. He believes the forum will offer valuable exchanges of stories and traditional techniques related to ‘bosou’, promoting discussions on sustainable indigenous food systems and potentially leading to collaborations in agriculture and food production.
Bangkuai is optimistic that the proposed event can boost tourism in Sabah by attracting tourists and culinary enthusiasts eager to experience the unique flavors of ‘bosou’ and learn about the region’s rich culture.
