Hot-handed Danielle Collins continued her winning streak by defeating Maria Sakkari in the Credit One Charleston Open semifinals. Collins, who has now won 12 matches in a row, beat Sakkari 6-3, 6-3 with the help of four aces and strong defense. The 2022 Australian Open runner-up has been dominant, winning 24 of her last 25 sets since the Miami Open.
This winning run matches Collins’ career best from 2021 when she won consecutive titles in Italy and San Jose. In the upcoming championship match, she will face off against fourth-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina, who outlasted top-seeded Jessica Pegula in a tough three set match.
Kasatkina, who converted 8 of 13 break points, emerged victorious after a grueling battle that lasted two hours and 47 minutes. Trailing 6-5 in the third set, she managed to claw her way back and eventually won the tiebreak to secure the win. Kasatkina has won two of their three previous meetings, but Collins defeated her to win the San Jose title.
Meanwhile, at the Copa Colsanitas tournament in Bogota, Colombian No. 1 seed Marie Bouzkova showcased her skills by defeating Russian eighth seed Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets. Bouzkova’s eight aces helped her secure a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory and advance to the final where she will face off against sixth-seeded Camila Osorio.
Osorio also had a strong performance in the semifinals, dispatching Italy’s Sara Errani with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win. The Colombian player showed her mettle by dominating the tiebreaker and maintaining control throughout the match. The stage is set for an exciting final showdown between Bouzkova and Osorio in Colombia.
