According to the online Sirim (Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) database, the Xbox Series X video game console has been discovered.
The listing on the database reveals that the console was approved by Sirim on Dec 20 of the previous year under the product model 1882, which corresponds to the Xbox Series X with 1TB of internal storage.
The Sirim database search also uncovered approval listings for two variations of the Xbox Series S (model numbers 1881 and 1883) from 2020, just prior to the original global release of the Series S and Series X consoles in November of the same year.
However, despite these earlier listings, Microsoft’s fourth generation of home video game consoles, like its predecessors, has yet to make an appearance in the Malaysian market, so the latest listing does not confirm a local launch.
When reached out to for comment, an Xbox representative stated, “We look forward to bringing the joy of gaming to more people and hope to share more in due time.”
The possibility of an Xbox console launch in the country has been hinted at for a long time, dating back to 2010 when then-CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer pledged an Xbox console release in Malaysia.
More recently, Malaysia saw the launch of the Xbox PC Game Pass in 2022, followed by the official availability of the Xbox Wireless Controller in 2023.
