    ISTANBUL — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin could visit Türkiye this month.

    DAMASCUS — Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Hussein al-Husseini al-Quraishi was killed in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib by a rival rebel group, a war monitor reported on Friday.

    Al-Quraishi was killed during clashes near a refugee camp in the village of Atama in northern Idlib, which is a few kilometers away from the town of Jindires in Aleppo province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS Leader-Kill)

    CAIRO — Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Friday that his government is considering enacting laws to prevent the recurring incidents of burning and desecration of the Quran.

    Rasmussen made the remarks during a phone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. (Egypt-Denmark-Quran Desecration)

    KHARTOUM — Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Friday issued a decision to form a committee for war crimes, human rights violations and practices of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the sovereign council said in a statement.

    The committee consists of representatives of the Public Prosecutor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Armed Forces, the Police, the General Intelligence Service, and the National Commission for Human Rights, according to the statement.
