(Reuters) – The widow of the deceased Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya, expressed gratitude towards the many Russians who stood in long queues to visit her husband’s grave.
Navalnaya wrote on X saying, “Many people wonder why Alexei fought so hard and never gave up. For your sake. For the beautiful, brave and honest people who now come in an endless queue to say goodbye to him.”
She added, “Thank you. This is the true love of the people.”
Last Friday, thousands of Navalny’s supporters gathered in Moscow’s Maryino neighbourhood to pay their respects to Russia’s prominent opposition leader, who passed away in an Arctic penal colony on February 16 at the age of 47.
Despite warnings from President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson against unauthorized rallies, many individuals chanted Navalny’s name and slogans such as “Putin is a murderer” and “No to war”. Over the weekend, people once again formed extensive queues to visit Navalny’s grave, adorned with flowers.
Yulia Navalnaya has accused Putin of orchestrating her husband’s murder, while Navalny’s team intends to investigate and disclose the names of those responsible.
The Kremlin has denied any involvement and has chosen not to comment on Navalny’s funeral, both before and after it occurred. Navalny’s supporters contest the death certificate’s assertion that he died of natural causes, a conclusion they refuse to accept.
