PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied allegations of disharmony within Barisan Nasional following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s upcoming meeting with MIC.
The Barisan chairman stated that it is customary for Anwar to meet with the component parties of the unity government, and therefore, the meeting with MIC on Wednesday (Aug 2) is not unusual.
“As the Prime Minister, it is only natural for him to meet with all 19 parties within the unity government,” Ahmad Zahid said after attending a dialogue with Bagan Pinang and Linggi supporters on Tuesday (Aug 1).
His remarks came in response to Anwar’s scheduled meeting with MIC, which is believed to be related to allegations made by the party about being sidelined by Umno during seat negotiations for the state polls.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the president of Umno, stated that despite not participating in the elections, both MIC and MCA actively supported Barisan’s campaign, indicating a positive development.
“We held a ‘war room’ meeting with representatives from MCA and MIC, and they confirmed that they had mobilised their entire machinery in the six states,” he added.
In the meantime, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the good compatibility and understanding between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan, emphasizing that their election machinery is committed to ensuring victory for candidates in Negri Sembilan.
He further stated that the results of the state elections in the six states would not affect the dynamics of the Federal Government.
“However, having state governments aligned with the Federal Government ensures consistent local development,” Ahmad Zahid asserted.
“This is the first time that Pakatan and Barisan have collaborated to support each other during the campaign trail.
“Supporters from both sides may be puzzled, but what truly matters is that both coalitions, guided by the spirit of this unity government, can effectively collaborate,” he concluded.
