PONTIAN: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Deputy Prime Minister, has called for the continuation of the Payung Rahmah initiative by the successor of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub at the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry. Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the low-income group (B40) and hardcore poor are hoping for the initiative to continue due to the current increase in the cost of living. He praised Salahuddin for his dedication in carrying out his duties, especially in implementing the Payung Rahmah initiative. Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi believes that the people will remember Salahuddin’s contribution to the country through this scheme. He expressed these sentiments after paying his last respects to Salahuddin at Jalan Sulong Muslim cemetery in Serkat on Monday (July 23).
During Salahuddin’s tenure, several initiatives were implemented under the Payung Rahmah initiative to help people face challenges related to the rising cost of living. These efforts were especially important as the country and the economy were recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Senator Fuziah Salleh, the Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, also expressed the ministry’s commitment to continuing the Payung Rahmah initiative. She described the initiative as a manifestation of Salahuddin’s love and concern for people in need. Salleh requested prayers for the ministry to be able to carry on the legacy of the Payung Rahmah initiative for the people of the country. She added that the nation has lost a hardworking, committed, and caring leader. – Bernama
