SEPANG: Two hundred students are heading to China to gain valuable TVET (technical and vocational education and training) exposure.

The students will be heading to one of eight TVET institutions for a learning experience of two weeks and more under the Malaysia-China Youth TVET programme (MCYTT).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who sent off the students at KLIA Terminal 1 here on Monday (Oct 7), said that the government would reimburse those who funded their own flight tickets.

All students, including those from previous cohorts who paid for their own flight tickets, will be able to claim a reimbursement from the government, he said.

Zahid, who is also the National TVET council chairman, expressed optimism that the quota for local students to participate in MCYTT would increase.

He said that in the early stages, 3,125 students were given the opportunity to gain exposure in China.

“I am grateful that after my visit to China, the Chinese government increased that number by another 2,000, bringing it to 5,125,” he said.

The Malaysia-China Youth TVET Training, which started on Nov 9, 2023, provides TVET training for Malaysian youths in China for various fields such as electric vehicle technology, solar, Internet of things, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and more.

Since its inception, 1,776 Malaysian TVET students have had the opportunity to train in China.
