Officials from Zambia’s mainstream media have expressed their readiness, while in the capital of Lusaka, to collaborate with China’s Xinhua News Agency in order to enhance cooperation and enrich the content of exchanges.

On Friday, Xinhua signed agreements with Zambia’s mainstream media outlets, including the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), with the aim of strengthening cooperation in various fields such as news exchange and journalist training.

During a meeting with Loyce Saili, director of ZANIS, and Bright Nkaka, acting director-general of ZNBC, Fu Hua, president of Xinhua, mentioned that Chinese and Zambian media have maintained strong relationships for a long time, serving as a crucial bridge between the two countries and their peoples.

Fu also pointed out that in 2024, the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia will be celebrated. Therefore, media outlets should focus on reporting the exchanges and cooperation between the two nations in various fields, fostering a favorable public opinion environment that supports the respective development paths of both countries while contributing to deepening the all-weather, all-round, and high-quality China-Zambia cooperation.

“Xinhua is willing to share its experience of media convergence with innovative technology with Zambian media and strengthen cooperation through multilateral platforms and frameworks for media exchanges such as the World Media Summit and the BRICS Media Forum, in order to effectively tell the stories of China-Zambia friendship,” said Fu.

Saili expressed her hope that ZANIS and Xinhua could expand their collaboration in video and new media coverage. She also emphasized the need for platforms organized by Xinhua, like the BRICS international journalism training program, to strengthen exchanges between both sides.

Nkaka expressed his optimism regarding the signing of the news exchange and cooperation agreement. As Xinhua possesses a global news and information gathering network, the agreement is expected to broaden the channels of communication for ZNBC, enrich news content, and provide Zambian audiences with a greater amount of news and information.

Additionally, Xinhua donated office equipment to some media groups in Zambia on the same day.

During Fu’s visit to Zambia, Xinhua also signed a news service agreement with Zambezi FM Radio, aiming to enhance mutual understanding between the Chinese and Zambian people and promote friendly relations between the two countries.
