Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir has dismissed the “green wave” phenomenon associated with the PAS-backed candidates in Penang as a mere psychological warfare tactic. Zambry, who is the Barisan Nasional secretary-general, emphasized the importance of building solidarity within the coalition and having full confidence in the candidates being fielded for the upcoming Aug 12 state polls, especially within Umno’s machinery.
During a meet-the-people session at the fishermen’s market in Sungai Pinang, Zambry expressed confidence that the alleged “green wave” is unlikely to occur in Penang, given the spirit shown by all parties, including their Pakatan Harapan partners. He was responding to inquiries about the speculated impact of the “green wave,” particularly in Malay-majority seats.
In the forthcoming state elections, Penang Barisan, notably Umno, is presenting candidates in six seats across the state. Zambry, who is also the Foreign Minister, was present to support Barisan’s candidate Ahmad Zaki Shah Headan, the son of a former assemblyman, who is contesting for the Teluk Bahang seat. Shah Headan’s contender for the seat is Muhamad Kasim, who is a Bersatu candidate aligned with Perikatan Nasional.
