(Reuters) – On Friday, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that changes were necessary to improve Ukraine’s mobilisation system as part of a broader effort to bolster the country’s military position in the ongoing 21-month-long war against Russia.

The topic of modifying and refining the mobilisation and recruitment process to enhance Ukraine’s fighting force has been a subject of public debate for some time.

In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy revealed that a meeting of the military command had discussed scenarios to achieve “concrete results” by 2024 amid wartime conditions. He emphasized the need for changes in the domain of mobilisation, stating, “This is not simply a question of numbers, of who can be mobilized. It’s a question of a time frame for each person who is now in the military, for demobilisation and for those who will join the military. And it’s about conditions.”

Zelenskiy urged commanders and the Defence Ministry to thoroughly review the issues and submit comprehensive solutions to the command.

“There were several proposals today and I am awaiting comprehensive solutions,” he said.
