Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Nelson Chamisa launches campaign in Gweru, promising economic prosperity and an end to corruption. He aims to win against President Mnangagwa on Aug. 23.
Chamisa, leader of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), criticizes lack of development in country. He vows to fix economic crises and address poverty and unemployment.
Supporters brave cold weather to attend rally, despite opposition party rally bans. Chamisa promises to fight corruption and ensure country’s resources benefit all.
This is Chamisa’s second bid for presidency under CCC. In 2018, he lost to Mnangagwa but vows not to accept a rigged election this time.
General election expected to be close, with both candidates enjoying support nationwide. Chamisa plans to win over Zanu-PF voters in the countryside.
